Breaking: 4-star QB Drew Allar Commits to Penn State Football
Penn State Football landed 4-star quarterback Drew Allar on Monday.
The 6 foot 5, signal caller out of Medina, OH is the latest addition to Penn State’s strong 2022 recruiting class.
Allar is the highest rated quarterback in the 247 Sports rankings to commit to Penn State Football since Justin Fields; and if he signs, the highest to do so since Christian Hackenberg in 2013.
He is the first big get for new offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach Mike Yurcich. This is exactly why Penn State Football head coach James Franklin brought in Yurcich, for the program to take the next step at the quarterback position.
Penn State Football first offered Allar back in January, when he was a 3-star and had minimal offers.
Since his Penn State Football offer, other big name schools like Michigan, Texas A&M and Tennessee have offered Allar. The biggest threat came when Notre Dame offered in late February.
With his commitment, it’s safe to say the Nittany Lions held off the late push Notre Dame made at Allar.
Allar is a big-armed quarterback capable of pushing the ball down field with little effort. He is the ideal quarterback for Yurcich’s air raid hybrid offense.
Allar received a major bump from 247 sports in February, which saw him rise over 300 spots and make him 89th best prospect in the entire class. He ranks 257 nationally in the composite rankings.
Allar is the eight commit in Penn State Football’s 2022 class. The class now ranks fifth in the 247 Sports rankings. All of Penn State’s commits are composite 4-stars.
With Allar and 4-star wide receiver Kaden Saunders in the fold, Penn State now has two top five players in Ohio, in 247 Sports rankings, in their class. Neither has an Ohio State offer though.
Penn State now has two quarterbacks in the class, as Allar joins composite 4-star Beau Pribula. The Nittany Lions originally planned on only taking one quarterback in this class, but the transfers of Will Levis and Micah Bowen left the team with only three scholarship quarterbacks.
With Sean Clifford expected to move on after the 2021 season, Taquan Roberson and Christian Veilleux would be the only quarterbacks on the roster for 2022, less than ideal.
Regardless, Franklin and Yurcich have to feel pretty good about the quarterbacks they have coming in 2022.
