Consolation Recap

125

No. 11 Robert Howard (PSU) vs. Malik Heinselman (OSU)

Heinselman dec. Howard, 5-2

Howard and Heinselman first squared off back on February 19 in a regular season dual meet in Columbus. Malik fought his way to a 5-2 decision back then. Apparently things haven’t changed as he also took this match 5-2.

5th Place Match
No. 11 Robert Howard (PSU) vs. Michael DeAugustino (NU)

DeAugustino dec. Howard, 4-2

Robbie Howard’s first B1G Championship comes to a close and he takes 6th place. The sky is the limit for Howard and his Penn State career has just begun, so I’m sure he’ll build on this experience going forward.

157

No. 5 Brady Berge (PSU) vs. No. 3 Brayton Lee (MINN)

Lee SV Berge, 3-1

Dang it. Berge was also unsuccessful in earning a trip to the 3rd place match as he lost yet another close match 3-1 in sudden victory.

5th Place Match
No. 5 Brady Berge (PSU) vs. No. 4 Kendall Coleman (PUR)

Coleman forfeit Berge

I’m not sure what happened regarding Berge’s forfeit, I just hope it’s not related to his head. Brady just can’t seem to shake the injury bug.

165

7th Place Match
No. 6 Joe Lee (PSU) vs. No. 12 David Ferrante (NU)

Ferrante dec. Lee, 10-6

Penn State fans again saw more inconsistency from the younger Lee brother as Joe dropped the decision 10-6 to the lower ranked Ferrante. An 8th place finish probably wasn’t what Joe Lee was expecting from his 1st B1G Championship appearance.

197

No. 7 Michael Beard (PSU) vs. No. 4 Cameron Caffey (MSU)

Caffey dec. Beard, 12-6

And down goes another Penn State grappler as Beard couldn’t muster enough to overcome Sparty’s Cameron Caffey. Can anyone make to the 3rd place match?

5th Place Match
No. 7 Michael Beard (PSU) vs. No. 5 Lucas Davison (NU)

Davison dec. Beard, 6-4

Oh well. With how things have gone in this year’s B1G Championships, I’m not surprised with a 6 place finish for Beard.

285

No. 7 Greg Kerkvliet (PSU) vs. No. 5 Christian Lance (NEB)

Kerkvliet maj. dec. Lance, 10-2

YES!! Someone did it! hank you Kerk Kong!

3rd Place Match
No. 7 Greg Kerkvliet (PSU) vs. No. 3 Tony Cassioppi (IOWA)

Cassioppi maj. dec. Kerkvliet, 9-0

Yep. This is just the icing on top of the cake.

What’s Next?

Next up are the 2021 NCAA Championships scheduled for March 18-20 at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri. This is the same host city for the 2017 NCAA Championships.
