No. 1 Aaron Brooks (PSU) vs. No. 6 Taylor Venz (NEB)
Brooks dec. Venz, 10-5
Venz got on the board early in the first period with a nifty double ankle pick to earn the takedown on Brooks (0-2). Aaron then freed himself (1-2) and quickly countered with a shot of his own and got Venz to the mat (3-2). Brooks proceeded to ride Venz out for the rest of the 1st period and build up his riding time.
The 2nd period Brooks elected for bottom and he took advantage of some sloppy positioning by Venz to get the reversal (5-2). Venz got out (5-3) and Brooks quickly caught him again with a smooth go behind (7-3) to further add to his lead. As with the 1st period, Brooks rode out Venz for the rest of the 2nd to safely secure the riding time point.
Brooks was on top for the 3rd and he gave up the escape (7-4), immediately got a takedown (9-4), and again gave up the easy escape (9-5). Clearly Brooks was the better wrestler as Venz couldn’t mount any sort of attack for the rest of the 3rd.
Aaron then cruised to the 10-5 decision and won his 2nd consecutive B1G title at 184.
Two out of four isn’t that bad? Is it?
