Continuing our tour around the Big Ten we take a look at the top 10 running back rooms in the conference, and where Penn State Football’s talented room falls

Archie Griffin, Eddie George, Ron Dayne, and Penn State Football’s Saquon Barkley.

When you think Big Ten football, you think running backs. The Big Ten is home to multiple Heisman Trophy winning backs, and is known for its teams who feature a ground and pound approach, most notably the Wisconsin Badgers and Iowa Hawkeyes.

This year is no different, as the conference boasts some of the best running games in the country, with Penn State Football’s stable of running backs being among the best of them.

Two of the Big Ten’s top five rushers from last season in Trey Sermon and Stevie Scott have declared for the NFL Draft, so there is room at the top of the list for some newcomers this upcoming season.

Here’s a look at this year’s B1G Running back rankings, including how Penn State Football compares to the rest of the conference:

10. Northwestern Wildcats

Northwestern relies heavily on a running back by committee approach, as three running backs had over 60+ carries last season.

Isaiah Bowser has entered the transfer portal, so more of the workload will fall on last season’s leading rusher Cam Porter and Drake Anderson. Porter ran 333 yards and four touchdowns, while Anderson added 256 rushing yards and two scores of his own.

Porter was impressive in just his freshman season as he is a tough tackle, listed at only five-foot-ten but 220 pounds he isa tough runner who can really get behind his pads.

The Wildcats will once again rely heavily on their running game in 2021 as they welcome quarterback Jake Bentley to Evanston via the transfer portal.
