B10 quarterback rankings: How does Penn State Football stack up?
6. Penn State Nittany Lions
Penn State Football went into 2020 feeling they had one of the better quarterbacks in the Big Ten in Sean Clifford, but after an inconsistent season, they land at No. 6 on this list.
Clifford did finish second in the conference in passing yards, throwing for 1,883 yards with 16 touchdowns, while rushing for 335 yards and three scores. His issues stemmed from turnovers, where he threw nine interceptions and fumbled three times.
Sophomore Ta’Quan Roberson could compete and push Clifford in the spring/summer for the starting job, however he has thrown only one pass in his career while Clifford has 20 collegiate starts under his belt. Roberson is a former highly touted four-star recruit though however who has the skill set to thrive in the Nittany Lions new offense.
It will be up to new offensive coordinator Mike Yurcich and his spread, air-raid attack offense to fix the accuracy and turnover issues Clifford struggled with last year.
Penn State Football comes in at this spot due to last season’s inconsistent play but undoubtedly has the potential of being top five or even top three in the Big Ten if Clifford is more like the quarterback we saw in 2019.
