Penn State Football: Top-25 players of the James Franklin Era

Nittany Lions . Garrett Taylor. 20. player. 806. . Safety

Garrett Taylor is another member of the Penn State football program who is on this list due to how hard he worked to carve a place out for himself in Happy Valley.

Taylor did not really burst onto the scene until he was a redshirt junior but ended up being an absolute playmaker in the secondary for head coach James Franklin.

He played sparingly early on for Franklin, but in 2018 and 2019, he really showed the kind of player he could be for this Penn State secondary. Taylor was named a captain as a senior, and across his final two seasons, he racked up 155 tackles and was named Honorable Mention All-Big Ten in his final season for the Nittany Lions.

Taylor was four times named an Academic All-American, and ended his career on the highest of notes, hauling in the first pick-six of his collegiate career in the team’s Cotton Bowl victory over Memphis. The game was a two-point affair at the time of his pick, but as was the case over his junior and senior years, Taylor was in the right place at the right time and has a forever memory for the Penn State football program.
