3. Hold on to Your Commits

This was alluded to earlier with what happened with Justin Fields, but he’s far from the only one that got away.

We can all imagine how different things would be if Fields stayed with Penn State and never ended up at Ohio State via way of transfer from Georgia.

Penn State did once lose another elite recruit in Micah Parsons, but was able to get him back in the fold on signing day.

Getting top recruits like Fields and Parsons is one thing, holding on to them is another.

Penn State lost 4-star tight end Holden Staes after Tyler Bowen left. The hope is that they don’t lose anymore recruits from their fifth ranked class.

Kaden Saunders has plenty of big name schools after him, such as Alabama and Notre Dame. If Penn State wants to keep up with Ohio State, keeping a top 100 prospect like Saunders in the fold is vital.

Penn State lost a top 100 recruit in the past two cycles due to a de-commitment, although it was only one a cycle, it’s not something you want to see happen.

Outside of Fields, no de-commit has really come back to haunt the Nittany Lions, but once you have talent in the fold, keep it there.
