4. Quarterback play has to be better…..right?

Quarterback Sean Clifford was up and down last season which resulted in him being benched week 4 at Nebraska.

Clifford took over the reigns for the final four games and played better, much more like the quarterback we saw in 2019 that led the Nittany Lions to an 11-2 season. He finished the season with 1,883 passing yards, 16 touchdowns and nine interceptions. The Ohio native also ran for 335 yards and three scores as well.

Turnovers and accuracy issues were his problem, however placing all the blame on Clifford is near-sighted. The running game was non-existent for the first five weeks, the line was below average in their pass protection and the defense was unable to help out the offense at all forcing turnovers and flipping field position.

Redshirt freshman Ta’Quan Roberson figures to push Clifford during the spring/fall for the starting position. If Roberson wins the battle he will most likely have earned it, as Clifford has a huge leg up with 20 collegiate starts to his zero.
