You never know??

As I aptly named this group of Nittany Lion title contenders, you really never know.

149 No. 11 Beau Bartlett
B1G Top 5 149
No. 2 Sammy Sasso (Ohio State)
No. 6 Max Murin (Iowa)
No. 9 Kanen Storr (Michigan)
No. 10 Michael Carr (Illinois)
No. 11 Beau Bartlett (Penn State)

With what we’ve seen so far from Bartlett, it’s easy to see why he’s in this group. Beau made his Penn State Wrestling dual debut on 2/19 against Ohio State’s No. 2 Sammy Sasso. And he was actually leading the match in the 1st period! He ultimately lost in a very close 3-5 decision but Bartlett was incredibly impressive. His only other dual meet match was then against Maryland’s Hunter Baxter and Beau cruised to an easy 9-3 decision.

Here are some other factors to consider in the B1G 149 group:

-Sasso pinned Murin when they squared off on 2/7
-Storr just lost to unranked Peyton Omania (Michigan State)
-Carr lost to both Sasso and Murin
-Transitive property isn’t always accurate

So for Bartlett, maybe there’s a chance??

157 No. 8 Brady Berge
B1G Top 5 157
No. 1 Ryan Deakin (Northwestern)
No. 5 Kaleb Young (Iowa)
No. 6 Brayton Lee (Minnesota)
No. 7 Kendall Coleman (Purdue)
No. 8 Brady Berge (Penn State)

As with Bartlett, Berge also just squeaks into the B1G’s top 5 at 157. And we know Berge certainly has the talent to compete against the best in the B1G and the nation. It just hasn’t materialized so far in his injury-plagued Penn State career. Brady is 5-0 on the season and his only top 20 victory was against Michigan’s No. 9 Will Lewan on 2/14 (3-1 decision).

One thing is for sure, if Berge is going to create some shockwaves, he’s going to have to take more chances and earlier in his matches. Relying on winning matches late in the third period with the scored tied 1-1 is not going to hold up against the best of the best in the B1G.

But, you never know, right?
