Penn State Football officially announced the hiring of Anthony Poindexter as the Nittany Lions’ safeties coach and co-defensive coordinator, Wednesday

Penn State Football made official Wednesday, (which we already knewand discussed) that Anthony Poindexter will be the Nittany Lions‘ new Co-Defensive Coordinator and Safeties Coach.

Poindexter held the same positions at Purdue for the past four years. He is also a member of the College Football Hall of Fame, and a two-time All-American.  He even brings a Super Bowl ring to Happy Valley from his time with the Baltimore Ravens.

Prior to Purdue, Poindexter coached at the University of Connecticut and the UVA Cavaliers, where started coaching as a Graduate Assistant back in 2003.  He moved into offensive coaching first as a Running backs Coach, before adding Special Teams to his expertise in 2008 and then moving to safeties in 2009.

Poindexter also has the potential to be a solid addition for Penn State Football on the recruiting trail, given his experience in the fertile recruiting ground of the DMV.

“He brings an impressive football background as a player and a coach,” Penn State Football head coach James Franklin tweeted. “(he) has an infectious personality and leads with humility.  Anthony’s safeties have always played hard with a nose for the ball.

And from Poindexter himself:  “Coach Pry has assembled one of the best defensive units in the country and nothing motivates me more than young men with a will to work hard and learn.  As long as I’ve played the game of football, I’ve been aware of the long-standing tradition and history of excellence here at Penn State.”
