Most important match

174 – Carter Starocci
Grade – A+++

Good heavens. What more can Carter Starocci do?

Just as with last Sunday’s match against Michigan’s Logan Massa, Starocci fought through the first three periods fending off attacks while trying to set up his own. Nothing seemed to be working for either Kaleb Romero or Starocci as the match headed for sudden victory.

Late in SV, Romero had Starocci dead to rights with a single leg. I have no idea how, but Starocci was able to counter and take Romero down to the mat to earn the takedown and the victory! Hold on, review time. After looking at the video, both wrestlers ended up out of bounds on the flurry of action and we headed to the first tie breaker.

Starocci earned a late escape in TB1 to make the score 2-1 but Romera was leading in riding time. Starocci promptly rode Romera the entire TB2 and earned an amazing decision 3-1 giving Penn State the lead 15-12.

What a match!
