Key match No. 2

197 – Michael Beard
Grade – A++

I went back and forth with this one. Between Beard’s match and Starocci’s match it was a difficult choice. But I’m paid the big bucks to make decisions and I’m sticking to this one.

As soon as the opening whistle blew, Beard was all over Gavin Hoffman. He looked like a man possessed and immediately took Hoffman to the mat, putting him in a bad position. For those who aren’t familiar with wrestling, if you place your entire body over your opponent and their back is almost flat with the mat, it’s bad.

Beard worked the position for what seemed like an eternity and eventually gained the necessary leverage he needed and put Hoffman’s back squarely on the mat, thus slamming the door shut on Ohio State’s chances. Ball game.
