NFL Mock Draft: Penn State Football’s Jayson Oweh to form ‘freakiest athletic tandem’
Penn State Football’s Jayson Oweh is viewed by many across the NFL as one of the more intriguing defensive end prospects because of his athletic upside, which is why he has frequently been pegged a first-round pick in recent NFL Mock Draft projections.
Despite limited production in 2020, producing just 38 total tackles without recording a single sack, Oweh has the potential to hear his name called night one of the 2021 NFL Draft.
Pro Football Focus projects the Cleveland Browns to choose Oweh No. 26 overall, pairing the Penn State standout opposite All-Pro Myles Garrett:
"Oweh across from Myles Garrett would give the Browns one of the freakiest athletic tandems in NFL history. The zero in Oweh’s sacks column this past season obviously stands out, but he took a massive leap forward in grading, going from 74.6 in 2019 to 85.3 in 2020."
Garrett has established himself as one of the game’s most dominant defensive ends, producing 12 sacks in 14 games this season, en route to being named a First-Team All-Pro for the first time and has already produced 42.5 sacks in 51 games.
Harnessing the athleticism within Oweh’s 6-foot-5 and 252 pound frame will be the challenge of his coaching staff at the next level, particularly if he is asked to bulk up to remain a defensive end rather than move to outside linebacker.
However, of Oweh is on the board when the Browns are on the clock, pairing him opposite Garrett could quickly develop into a formidable duo in a division where containing quarterbacks Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow will be critical for years to come.
