Can a freshman push for playing time?

4. Christian Veilleux

The Canadian quarterback prospect, Christian Veilleux, has enrolled early after not having his senior season of high school football due to COVID-19 canceling their season.

The story of Veilleux is one of sacrifice and maturity, as he left home in Canada when he was 15 years old to play football in America, where he would face tougher competition and be recognized by a program like Penn State Football. His enrolling at Happy Valley is just the culmination of a plan a long time in the making.

Veilleux is a three star recruit, but has prototypical size for a pocket passer at six-foot-three and about 201 pounds. He is a solid athlete but is a pure pocket passer and long term projects very nicely into a Mike Yurcich offense.

Not having his senior season is a tough pill to swallow, as he gets to campus having not played  a football game in quite some time, and although Franklin and the staff are bullish on his potential for the future, he is probably looking at a redshirt season coming up in 2021.

Veilleux has been a solid commit for some time now for Penn State Football and was instrumental in keeping this ’21 recruiting class intact during the struggles of the 2020 season. He has been a vocal leader on social media for the class and expect that to carry over into the locker room.

Look for Penn State Football to maybe get Veilleux some snaps in late game situations when the score is out of hand to get him some snaps, but Veilleux will factor into the quarterback discussion heavily in 2022.
