Penn State Football landed its second commitment from the transfer portal Monday

Penn State Football received a commitment from South Carolina transfer defensive back Johnny Dixon on Monday afternoon.

Dixon announced the move on his Twitter.

Dixon just completed his sophomore season at South Carolina, where he played corner back. He recorded 34 tackles, five pass break ups and recovered a fumble this season. He started eight games.

A native of Tampa, Florida, Dixon is listed as 6-foot and 185 pounds on South Carolina’s website. According to his bio, he is pursuing a degree in advertising.

Penn State does need more depth in its secondary, but most of that was focused on the safety position. Penn State has four talented corners who will all be juniors next season, along with the fact that Tariq Castro-Fields still hasn’t made a decision on if he will go pro or not. They also brought in 4-star corner Kalen King in the 2021 recruiting class. It’s unclear if Penn State plans to play Dixon at safety or possibly move someone else there. If Jaquan Brisker returns, they may not move anyone to safety.

Penn State did recruit Dixon during his recruitment in the 2019 cycle, so there was a relationship already in place, making it easier for something like this to come together.

Dixon becomes the second former Penn State recruiting target to transfer to the Nittany Lions this month. Running back John Lovett announced his intentions to transfer to Penn State last week.

The Nittany Lions were expected to be aggressive in the transfer portal this season, and so far that has been the case. The team is still targeting defensive ends and an offensive lineman, along with possibly another defensive back and maybe a quarterback.

With the NCAA allowing all transfers to play immediately in 2021, it is projected to be a wild off season in college football. Penn State looks to be in the thick of the madness.
