Penn State Football’s Jayson Oweh joins fellow Nittany Lions linebacker Micah Parsons as a first-round pick in latest 2021 NFL Mock Draft projection
Penn State Football’s Jayson Oweh sat out Saturday night’s Nittany Lions’ thrashing of Illinois in a frigid Beaver Stadium, but the linebacker could be headed to a much warmer locale according to the latest 2021 NFL Mock Draft projection
Oweh, along with Nittany Lions’ opt out Micah Parsons, could go a long way towards restoring Penn State’s reputation as Linebacker U if they both wind up getting chosen in the first-round of the 2021 NFL Draft.
That’s exactly what happens in CBS Sports’ latest 2021 NFL Mock Draft that has Parsons going No. 8 to the Miami Dolphins, and Oweh following suit to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers with the No. 22 overall pick:
"Tampa Bay probably needs to prepare for life after Shaq Barrett and/or Jason Pierre-Paul sooner rather than later. Jayson Oweh is obviously not going to fulfill both of those roles but the team will need to account for a loss of pass rush. Oweh is still a bit raw as a prospect but he has high level athletic traits."
Oweh is one of the more athletically gifted defensive prospects in this year’s class, even if he is a bit raw. The Buccaneers, with Barrett, Devin White, and a ferocious defensive line can afford to let the Howell, NJ native develop and bring him along slowly.
In eight games this season, Oweh produced a career-high 38 total tackles with one pass breakups, but did not produce a sack. While Oweh didn’t pad the stat sheet this season, he certainly showed out both as a pass rusher and improved as a run-stopper, finishing Week 8 as Pro Football Focus’ highest-graded defender in Week 8 with an 89.2 mark.
