Penn State Football CB Joey Porter Jr. joins RB Keyvone Lee as Nittany Lions named Big Ten Freshman of the Week in consecutive games

Penn State Football cornerback Joey Porter Jr. has been named Big Ten Freshman of The Week, following his dominant performance against Rutgers on Saturday afternoon.

Porter Jr. joins teammate and running back Keyvone Lee as the second consecutive Nittany Lion to collect the conference honor.

Saturday afternoon, Porter Jr. produced a career-high seven tackles. Through the season’s first seven games, Porter Jr. is leading all Penn State defensive backs with 30 total tackles. Porter Jr. has also one sack and four pass breakups in his redshirt freshman season.

"“We just knew we had to keep feeding off the energy that we had last week [in a 27-17 win at Michigan],” Porter said during a postgame interview, via Lions247. “We knew we had to come in and play hard with this 1-0 mentality, and that’s what we did. We showed up, we balled out, and we’re on to next week.”"

Last week marked the third consecutive game that Porter Jr. logged four-plus solo tackles.

Porter and his Penn State Football teammates aim to close out the regular season on a three-game winning streak, following Saturday’s 23-7 victory over Rutgers at Shi Stadium, when the Nittany Lions host Michigan State on Saturday afternoon at Beaver Stadium.
