Penn State’s top commit in the 2021 recruiting class, Landon Tengwall, will enroll early.

Offensive line commit Landon Tengwall made the announcement on Twitter Thursday night, he’ll be joining the Penn State Football program as an early enrollee.

The 6-foot6, 300-pound offensive lineman is the highest rated commit in Penn State’s class, and is one of the three highest offensive line recruits brought in by James Franklin, with Michal Menet and Rasheed Walker being the other two.

Considered of the more college ready offensive linemen in the 2021 cycle, enrolling early will only help Tengwall even more. Having extra time with offensive line coach Phil Trautwein and Penn State’s strength and conditioning program, could help Tengwall be a member of the offensive line rotation in 2021.

Penn State is expected to replace two offensive linemen after this season with Menet and Will Fries most likely not taking the sixth year option. Walker could also declare for the draft, forcing the Nittany Lions to replace three starters. Tengwall will have an opportunity to compete for those jobs.

Although listed as a tackle, Tengwall has the versatility to play guard, which makes him more valuable to the Nittany Lions.

Tengwall’s senior season at Good Counsel (MD) was cancelled due to the pandemic, so he’s already been in training mode.

The last true freshman to be a regular starter on Penn State’s offensive line was Connor McGovern who started at guard for the Nittany Lions in 2016. Like Tengwall, McGovern was an early enrollee, so there is an advantage to doing so.

The leader of Penn State’s recruiting class will be able to get familiar with college life during the offseason, which is a lot less stressful than doing so during the season.

Tengwall mentioned in an interview with Victory Bell Rings back in October that he plans to study business at Penn State.

Tengwall and the other 2021 commits can sign with the Nittany Lions on December 16.
