Week 4 Penn State Football and Big Ten picks ATS
Penn State football a small favorite as they travel to Lincoln, Nebraska to take on the winless Nebraska Cornhuskers from Memorial Stadium.
It as been tough sledding trying to figure out the Big Ten this year, especially with Penn State Football off to a winless start.
After going 1-2 again last week, we are back looking for winners.
Penn State is a three point road favorite as they travel to take on the Huskers, looking to turn there season around. A few other matchups around the conference provide interesting value, lets make some money!
Here’s a look at our against the spread predictions:
Record To Date: 4-6
Penn State -3 vs Nebraska
Penn State HAS to win this game right?
An 0-4 start seems unthinkable for a team that was preseason top 10, then again, 0-3 did also.
Penn State seemingly hit rock bottom in a 35-19 loss to Maryland last week, with plenty of blame to go around. The offense was anemic outside of garbage time yards and points that came in the fourth quarter, while the defense gave up big chunk plays in the passing game.
Junior wide receiver Jahan Dotson pointed out after the loss that they are not one right now and not playing as a unit, and it shows.
Penn State needs to get the ground game going against a Nebraska defense that ranks 10th in the Big Ten in rush defense, forcing them to honor the RPO offense and open the passing game up for quarterbacks Sean Clifford and/or Will Levis.
On defense, the Huskers present something the Nittany Lions have not really seen to this point, a quarterback run heavy offense. Last week both Huskers QB’s combined to run for 151 yards against Northwestern. Nebraska head coach Scott Frost was non committal in announcing a starter for this week, leaving Penn State guessing and having to prepare for either outcome.
This point spread is interesting because a preseason betting line most likely had Penn State a double digit favorite in this one. Things have changed, so is the -3 good value? or a sucker bet to keep hammering the presumed better team? Only time will tell but I refuse to believe Penn State is THIS bad. Penn State 31-17
