Penn State Football pays tribute to Journey Brown vs. Nebraska
Penn State Football paid tribute to RB Journey Brown ahead of Saturday’s game vs. Nebraska
Penn State Football paid tribute to Journey Brown, forced into an early retirement from football this week due to a heart condition, by hanging the Nittany Lions running back’s jersey outside the visiting locker room for Saturday’s game against Nebraska.
Brown and Penn State head coach James Franklin announced this week that Brown will be unable to ever play football again, after the 21-year-old was diagnosed with hypertrophic cardiomyopathy.
The condition was discovered prior to the season during a screening for COVID-19, but was not related to any COVID-19 diagnosis.
"“We learned about this in early September,” Penn State head football coach James Franklin told reporters Wednesday. “And we’ve been working through this and dealing with this as a team. Journey is one of the most popular and respected players on our team.”"
Last season, Brown ascended to the top of the Nittany Lions’ backfield rotation, making 10 starts and leading the team in rushing with 890 yards and 12 touchdowns.
The Nittany Lions turn to Devyn Ford as the top running back for the rest of 2020, after Noah Cain was lost for the season in the regular season opener against Indiana.
Penn State takes on the Nebraska Cornhuskers at noon on Saturday, in search of the program’s first win of the 2020 College Football season.
