Penn State Football looks to even up all-time series vs. Nebraska

Looking Back

The history of this series actually goes back 100 years, as the first matchup between these two programs dates back to 1920.

Between 1920 and 1949, Penn State and Nebraska met up twice, with the Nittany Lions winning both matchups, outscoring the Cornhuskers by the score of 42-7.

In fact, Penn State won four of the first five battles between these two programs, before Nebraska went on a three-game wininng streak from 1958 through the 1980 college football season. In the early 1980s, the series was all Penn State, as the Nittany Lions won in both 1981 and 1982, but a Nebraska win in 1983 would kick off a run of dominance over the next 30 years.

The game has changed a lot since the those early games back in the 1920s and 1940s, but each program has enjoy a few nice runs over the first 17 games of this series. On Saturday, Penn State has a chance to even this series up at nine wins a piece, but they have to figure out their identity before they can do so.
