Penn State basketball lost its second commitment since former head coach Patrick Chambers’ resignation.

Didn’t we just do this a week ago?  Houston Mallette, a 6’5″ combo guard from California has announced he will de-commit from Penn State Basketball and reopened his college recruitment.

If this sounds all too familiar, well, it should.  One week ago, I wrote the exact same article about about 4* Taquan Woodley, who decommitted due to the resignation of Pat Chambers.

Houston Mallette expressed similar sentiments:

"“Following the recent resignation of now former head Men’s Basketball Head Coach, Pat Chambers, I have had to re-evaluate my decision and determine what to do.  I was able to build a great relationship with Coach Chambers and his staff and they were the primary reason I committed to Penn State.”"

Of particular note, at this point, no other staff changes have occurred, outside of the promotion of Assistant Coach Jim Ferry to Head Coach.  Therefore, it’s safe to assume he committed due to Pat and now that Pat’s not here, well, neither will Houston Mallette.

Houston was a composite three star recruit who had offers from Eastern Washington, James Madison, Long Beach State and Loyola Marymount.  While not quite as high impact a recruit as Woodley, this is another huge loss for the now free-falling Penn State Basketball program.

Unlike football, recruiting classes are normally only three or four student athletes.  In less than two weeks since Pat Chambers’ “resignation”, PSU just lost two recruits for the 2021 season.  In case you didn’t believe me two weeks ago, #theclimbisdead.
