Penn State Football’s Big Ten East Division hopes likely hinge on beating Ohio State Saturday night, and the Nittany Lions will need huge contributions from 4 under the radar players

Penn State Football is effectively fighting for it’s season Saturday night when the No. 3 ranked Ohio State Buckeyes come to Beaver Stadium. A win, and the season is back on track and the Nittany Lions are in the B10 East driver’s seat. A loss, though, and almost all Playoff hopes are dashed.

Lets look at 5 under the radar Penn State Football players that are key to getting the Nittany Lions back on track.

Freshman RB Duo Must Step Up

Coming into the season, Penn State had maybe the best running back room in the entire country. With Journey Brown and Noah Cain both out for the season, the depth of that room is being challenged in a big way early on. Devyn Ford will take over as the lead dog, but that means true freshmen backs Keyvone Lee and Coziah Holmes will need to step up as well.

In Saturday’s loss, Lee carried the ball six times for 35 yards, while Holmes got five rushes for 16 yards. Both came to Happy Valley as highly touted 4-star recruits, however I’m not sure head coach James Franklin ever envisioned them playing this big a role in week two of the 2020 season. Both backs showed flashes Saturday, and Penn State will need to lean on this running game no matter who is toting the rock, especially against the Buckeyes. Controlling the clock and keeping the ball away from the vaunted Ohio State offense will be key for Franklin’s squad.
