6 reasons the Penn State Nittany Lions beat Indiana
Tight End Pat Freiermuth
While Micah Parsons will not be with the team, and will be a first round pick in 2021, one guy who also could join Parsons in Round 1 is tight end Pat Freiermuth. As is the case with any elite tight end, having a player like Freiermuth gives his team a decided advantage, and he will be a key to victory against the Hoosiers.
Last season, Freiermuth enjoyed a season that saw him be named not only a second-team All-Big Ten selection, but also be named to a few second-team All-America squads. He followed up a solid freshman season with a breakout sophomore campaign, hauling in 43 catches for over 500 yards and seven touchdowns.
He comes into the Indiana game needing only 125 yards to reach 1,000 receiving yards for his career, and he could reach that plateau against the Hoosiers. A touchdown machine, racking up 15 in two years, Freiermuth is a perfect security blanket for quarterback Sean Clifford, and should find some easy sledding against Indiana.
Freiermuth is one of those pass-catching tight ends that can make life miserable for defensive coordinators, and the expectation is Clifford will look for him early, and often against Indiana. He has gotten better every season, and if this is his last year in Happy Valley, expect him to once again be a major part of this offense.
