6 reasons the Penn State Nittany Lions beat Indiana

Enough depth behind Journey Brown

Losing a player like Journey Brown is a devastating development that will certainly affect the way Penn State moves the ball on offense. Bringing in a new offensive coordinator in Kirk Ciarrocca, a guy who loves to run the ball, the Nittany Lions were banking on a heavy dose of Brown this season.

With Brown out this week, and possibly for the year, it will be the next-man-up mentality, and lucky for Penn State, they have incredible depth behind him. Starting with Noah Cain, who helped carry Penn State to a victory over Iowa last season, the Nittany Lions will likely run a host of backs in 2020, including two freshman who can absolutely pound the ball inside.

Cain is likely to get the first snaps, but he will be joined as Starter A and B by Devyn Ford, who had an off-the-field issue this summer, but is inline to play against Indiana. For averaged nearly six yards per carry last season, and is a versatile back who can make plays in the passing game, giving Ciarrocca two solid options atop the depth chart.

Behind Cain and Ford are freshman Keyvone Lee and Caziah Holmes, and they will get their touches with Brown out. Lee and Holmes give Penn State two change of pace guys who could be featured in short-yardage situations.
