Penn State Football: Grades vs. Ohio State
By Dylan Burd
In order to gain an edge in this game, the Nittany Lions were going to need to be perfect on special teams. However, they weren’t, and it ended up being something that hurt Penn State in this game.
Blake Gillikin had a rough day punting the football, as he only averaged 34 yards per punt, a rarity for him. Penn State was trying to play the field position battle at the beginning of this game, and it just didn’t work out for them at all, partially because of average or below average punts from Gillikin. That was the major part of special teams that had an impact on the game.
Other than the punt game, there were no problems on special teams for the Nittany Lions. K.J Hamler had two kick returns for 39 yards and one punt return for seven yards. Jake Pinegar hit his one field goal attempt for 42 yards.
