Penn State Football: Grades vs. Ohio State
By Dylan Burd
It was an average day for the wide receivers on Saturday. K.J Hamler had his season-low in receiving yards, as he only had 45 on three receptions.
While Hamler didn’t have his best game, it wasn’t necessarily his fault. Hamler didn’t have any drops, and the quarterback play through the air definitely wasn’t anywhere near what it has been the rest of the season.
It was nice to see Justin Shorter have a bit of a bounce-back game from where he was at the rest of this season. Shorter had only 28 yards, but he did have three receptions, tied for a season-high. More importantly, Shorter had no drops, something he’s had a problem with this season.
Jahan Dotson only had one reception for six yards in the game. In addition, Dotson dropped a pass that was right in his hands on a 3rd and 7 at the Ohio State 36-yard line. Considering that this was when Ohio State only had a 7-0 lead in the second quarter, this was a costly mistake early in the game.
In terms of the tight ends, Pat Freiermuth had a solid day, as he hauled in six catches for 40 yards. Freiermuth has continued to be a security blanket for Sean Clifford this year, as he now has 40 receptions on the season. Nick Bowers also contributed with a reception for 12 yards.
Overall, the wide receivers and tight ends didn’t do much but also didn’t make many mistakes, other than the Dotson drop.
