B. . . . DEFENSIVE LINE

The defensive line was arguably the best positional unit on the team through the first eight weeks of the season, but they’ve hit a bit of a slide throughout the last two weeks. The run defense has stayed dominant, but getting pressure on the quarterback hasn’t.

Indiana only averaged 2.9 yards per carry on Saturday, as they had 31 carries for 91 yards. The Hoosiers did have two touchdowns on the ground, but both were one-yard runs by quarterback Peyton Ramsey.

In terms of getting pressure on the quarterback, the Nittany Lions did have two sacks this week, which is an improvement from last week’s one, but other than that, Peyton Ramsey seemed like he had all day to throw. It showed, as he didn’t throw an interception, and threw for 371 yards and a touchdown on 31 of 41 passing.

Yetur Gross-Matos and Shaka Toney each had a sack, and Robert Windsor led all defensive linemen with four tackles. Gross-Matos also had a QB hurry. Additionally, P.J Mustipher had two tackles, and Antonio Shelton had a tackle, including a half a tackle for loss. Jayson Oweh, Shane Simmons, and Fred Hansard all had a tackle as well.

If Penn State can’t get any pressure on Justin Fields next week, then he’s going to have a field day, not only throwing the ball but running the ball as well.
