Penn State Football: Grades vs. Indiana
By Dylan Burd
The big coaching highlight in this game was the 18-play, 75-yard, nine-minute drive that Penn State had to essentially seal the game when they were up 27-24 in the fourth quarter. The drive legitimately couldn’t have been executed more perfectly.
I’m sure I would have been talking differently about this if Will Levis didn’t convert from the wildcat on 3rd and short and 4th and short towards the end of the drive, but it worked. Clearly this is something that’s been practiced a lot and may end up being used the rest of the season if proved effective. Levis is a big body at 6’3,” 229 Ibs., so it does make sense to use him in short-yardage situations.
Penn State also didn’t record their first and second loss in back-to-back games for the first time since 2016. It doesn’t matter who it was against, that’s a step in the right direction and a great job by the coaching staff.
If there’s one aspect of the team that needs to be fixed by next week, it’s the communication in the secondary, and every single person knows that’s true, the fans, coaches, and players. Other than that, it was an all-around well coached game from the Penn State staff.
