Penn State football top target Theo Johnson has decided to put a hold on his announcement.

The week hasn’t gotten any better for Penn State football. Just last week, the team was feeling great. As they ranked within the top five, cracking the fourth spot on the College Football Playoff rankings, it felt like the Nittany Lions couldn’t do any wrong.

That changed on Saturday as the team dropped their first game of the season. After heading into Minnesota to take on the Golden Gophers, the Lions had a chance to notch another big win on the year to improve their case of being one of college football’s best.

Unfortunately, they ended up taking their first loss on the season and falling back out of playoff contention. While the loss was surely hard to get over, there was still a chance the Nittany Lions could feel a bit better with some positive news on the recruiting front, which was expected to come very soon.

On November 18th, one of the Nittany Lions’ top recruiting targets for the 2020 class, Theo Johnson planned to announce the program he’s committing to for next season. According to the top recruiting platforms in college football, Penn State was the “target to beat.”

In other words, the Nittany Lions were favorites. In a few days, we expected to hear the final decision, but it seems as though Johnson is far from ready to decide. According to PennLive’s Greg Pickel, Johnson is postponing his decision. And apparently, analysts are under the belief that the postponement hurts Penn State the most.

Next. Saturday’s loss had little impact on Penn State's CFP path. dark

While Penn State has more than enough commitments for the 2020 class with 28 total so far, they could use some more star power at the tight end position. As their current tight end, Pat Freiermuth is soon to be on his way to the pros, Penn State needs to ensure they have a valuable replacement — and Theo Johnson could absolutely play the part.
