The Big Ten is extremely good this year. In KenPom, out of the 14 teams in the conference, 10 of them are in the top-45. The entire conference is inside the top-100. In order to make the tournament, Penn State is going to likely need to have at least nine conference wins to go along with some sold wins out-of-conference.
Penn State plays the bottom three teams in the conference (according to KenPom), Rutgers, Minnesota, and Northwestern a combined six times, which is good. However, as I said before, in college basketball, you need to win the games you are supposed to win. Penn State will need to win at least five of those six games to have a shot at the tournament.
The Nittany Lions also have No. 1 Michigan State, No. 7 Maryland, and No. 18 Ohio State coming to the Bryce Jordan Center this season, which will be a huge opportunity to grab a big win.
