Chicago Bears wide receiver Allen Robinson recently discussed Penn State football wide receiver, KJ Hamler, on the Big Ten Network.

Before there was a KJ Hamler balling out in the receiving game for Penn State football, there was an Allen Robinson. Yes, we’re talking THAT Allen Robinson, who made THAT catch against Michigan. However, Robinson is known for much more than the big catch during his career in college with the Nittany Lions.

During his three-year stint from 2011 to 2013, Robinson accounted for 177 catches, 2,479 yards, and 17 touchdowns, which helped him wrap up his collegiate career with a top-five ranking within the program when it comes to receptions, yards, and touchdowns.

After his Junior season, Robinson went off to the NFL Draft, where he would soon become a second-round pick for the Jacksonville Jaguars. Nowadays, though, Robinson is flashing his skills out in Chicago with the Bears.

After hitting a bit of slump recently because of injuries, it seems as though Robinson is back to his old self as he heads into his NFL bye week with 377 yards and two scores, despite playing with a struggling quarterback situation.

Robinson hasn’t been thinking of that, though, since he has the week off. Instead, he came back to college for a moment to sit down and have a discussion with the Big Ten Network. Recently, the network picked Robinson’s brain about the current state of the Lions, which he likes.

Then, the network wanted Robinson to evaluate a few pass-catchers around the conference. To no surprise, Penn State’s current leading receiver KJ Hamler was in the mix, and Robinson had nothing but good things to say about the showstopping receiver.

Who does Robinson compare Hamler to?

The easiest way to evaluate players nowadays is to find a comparison to an NFL talent. So that’s exactly what Robinson did. When the former Lion thought about which players Hamler reminds him of, he came up with Kansas City Chiefs’ wide receiver Tyreek Hill.

Hill, who is best known for his speed, seems like a reasonable comp for Hamler since the Penn State wideout believes he can outrun anybody on the field and beat them despite being smaller than most defenders. Also, Robinson sees similarities between Hamler and John Ross.

As you may know, Ross broke the 40-yard dash record time at the NFL combine a couple of years back. So you know that Ross’ game is all about speed as well. While Hamler typically doesn’t like comparisons to former Penn State players, he doesn’t mind NFL veteran comps for himself. Recently, Hamler revealed that he models his game after DeSean Jackson and Steve Smith — but saying he resembles John Ross and Tyreek Hill makes sense in this case as well.
