Penn State football running backs coach Ja’Juan Seider will be working on landing a 2021 Top-10 commitment this year.

Penn State football is best known for its linebackers unit on the defense. That comes off as distinct, considering the nickname for the Lions is ‘Linebacker U.’ Nowadays though, Penn State doesn’t want to be known for one of its units. Instead, multiple position groups are trying to get in on the spotlight from the Nittany Lions.

One of those positions is most definitely the backfield. Everybody is aware of the recent success Penn State running backs have had. They went from Saquon Barkley, who ended up becoming a top-three draft pick in the NFL — to Miles Sanders, who ended up being a second-round pick, despite leaving college on a semi-early note.

Now, the current backfield, also known as the ‘LawnBoyz,’ is stocked up with not one, not two, but four productive backs in Journey Brown, Noah Cain, Devyn Ford, and Ricky Slade. Two of which are only freshmen. And next season, Penn State adds two more top backs with Keyvone Lee and Caziah Holmes. Now, Penn State’s Ja’Juan Seider is getting work done for the 2021 class, as Penn State lands as a top target for a Florida-based running back, Lovasea Carroll.

Penn State remains relevant

Lovasea Carroll grades out as one of the best backs in the nation. According to 247 Sports Composite rankings, Carroll is a top-ten, four-star prospect hailing from the familiar IMG Academy. For those who don’t remember, the Academy is where Seider scooped up Noah Cain from. Soon, in a couple of years, Penn State could have another top prospect entering Happy Valley from there.

It won’t be an easy task for Seider, as Carroll seems to have a significant interest in a handful of SEC schools. According to Lions 247, Carroll put together a top eight, which listed six total SEC schools. The other two? They were in the Big Ten.

Penn State and Ohio State are the only non-SEC teams in the mix for Carroll. The competition for his commitment is fierce, but as long as Seider is staying in contact with the top-ten running back, we’re fully confident that Penn State will remain relevant in this race for Carroll’s commitment until a final decision is made.
