3. Journey Brown, RB

Once again, don’t expect Penn State to run away from using the running back by committee approach to their offense. While a couple of guys have proven to be a bit more useful than the others, nobody on the coaching staff truly believes there’s just one guy who should take over.

If we had to pick one that typically stands out above the rest, it would definitely be Journey Brown. At this point, Brown has proven to be the best all-around back. He can run, he can catch, and he can move the ball and score. After the first couple of weeks, Penn State realized that perhaps Brown deserves the number one spot on the depth chart.

While he is listed at number one over Ricky Slade right now, he still hasn’t stolen a majority of the reps. The committee stays in place, and Brown will have to share the workload. It’s quite clear right now that Brown is the candidate who is most likely to go off. So if he gets a rhythm going early on, he could earn a good chunk of the snaps.

Plus, two weeks ago, Purdue allowed two running backs to exceed 100 yards in one game. Maybe Brown and one of the other three guys do something similar this week as well.
