Penn State football star wide receiver KJ Hamler had quite the battle with Maryland’s student section this past weekend.

For over a month now, fans of the Maryland Terrapins had Week 5 circled on their calendars. As Penn State football was set to visit, the Terps wanted to do all they could to make it a sellout event, and apply pressure on this young Penn State team.

Back in August, Maryland made an announcement that many students loved. For that specific Friday, the University was going to cancel late classes so they could ensure students would show up for the event, as they attempted a ‘blackout.’

Just a few days before the game, Maryland made the announcement that their blueprint was going to work. They ended up selling out Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium. Everything was going according to plan for the Terps leading up to Friday’s matchup — that was until the matchup began. Then, it all fell apart.

Moments before kickoff, Penn State’s star wideout KJ Hamler was gearing up for the team’s fourth battle of the year. As he attempted to tune out the crowd noise, the star wideout couldn’t help but hear the heckling coming from Maryland fans behind him.

While Hamler is known to be overly-confident, he isn’t one to talk back. Actions speak louder than words, and Hamler proved that on Friday night. Before the game, the Penn State wideout was all smiles, blowing kisses to the Terps fans who had nothing nice to say.

Confidence is key for KJ Hamler, and his confidence never wavered despite being on the road and not having the crowd’s support. By the time Hamler was finished with Maryland though, the Terps had lost the crowd support as well as Maryland fans quickly exited the stadium after the half.

Hamler wrapped up his Friday night with six catches for 108 yards and a score. He was seen toying around with the Terps defense as Hamler’s start-stop speed is as quick as anybody’s. Hamler’s 2019 progress slowed down a bit after the first week, but he picked up where he left off against Maryland as Penn State looks to get the star receiver more involved moving forward.
