Former Penn State football quarterback Trace McSorley offered his assessment of the 2019 team while watching the game against Maryland.

Penn State football was well represented for their first away game of the year on Friday night. Not only did the Nittany Lions fans travel well and sprinkle a lot of white shirts in the crowd during a ‘blackout,’ but they also had a legend in the building as well.

For the last three years, Trace McSorley starred for the Penn State Nittany Lions at quarterback. Nowadays though, he’s working as a third-string quarterback for the Baltimore Ravens. And since Penn State was in Maryland on Friday night, McSorley decided to take a trip over to Capital One Field at Maryland Stadium to check out his former team.

The Lions surely didn’t disappoint their former leader on Friday as they looked to keep up with their undefeated streak in 2019. After a close battle against Pittsburgh two weeks ago, nobody knew what to expect from Penn State on the road for the first time this year. But a blowout was in order, and Penn State took the cake with a 59-0 victory.

Before the time ran out entirely though, Trace McSorley gave his honest assessment of the team to the Big Ten Network while standing on the visiting sidelines on Friday. And as expected, the Penn State legend is quite impressed with what he has seen so far.

“Playing at an away stadium, it feels like a Penn State crowd,” McSorley said as he stood just feet away from a swarm of Penn State shirts and jerseys in the crowd. “I think the team looks good; they got a lot of promise and a lot of guys that can do a lot of big things this year. So I’m looking forward to seeing what they can do and just following them all the way through the year.”

So far, Penn State is on the right track as they blew out three of their four opponents so far. They will continue their schedule with a game against Purdue at home next week. A 5-0 start, going undefeated in the conference would be an ideal start for this young Lions team, who was nothing more than a question mark just a month ago.
