Penn State football has a bye week. Therefore, James Franklin and his staff will be visiting some of their 2020 prospects.

The recruiting grind never stops in the NCAA. Especially for Penn State football. As we know, the Nittany Lions’ recruiting and coaching staff keeps busy in the offseason as they host tons of events in Happy Valley throughout the summertime.

Then when the season gets started, they make sure they have a handful of prospects at Beaver Stadium as well to get a taste of the game-day atmosphere. What happens during the bye week, though? Well, instead of James Franklin and company hosting prospects, Franklin and the coaching/recruiting staff take a trip to check out the prospects at their current school!

As Franklin mentioned on Wednesday, the crew will be booked from Thursday to Saturday night as they travel all over to meet with prospects and check them out in action. Although Franklin didn’t offer up any names on who he planned on visiting — we put together a quick list of five prospects who could most likely receive a visit from Franklin and company.

Going over the list

1. KeAndre Lambert, WR

In less than two weeks, the Virginia-based four-star wideout plans to make his announcement. Along with Penn State — North Carolina, Clemson, and Virginia Tech made it as Lambert’s top four. Right now, PSU has four commitments from wideouts for the 2020 class.

Lambert will become their highest-recruited prospect at the position if he commits. The public consensus mostly believes he will stay in Virginia, but the Nittany Lions are far from ruled out.

2. Theo Johnson, TE

Canadian tight end Theo Johnson has spent tons of time in Happy Valley over the last year. Recently, he was in town for the Buffalo game, and next month he will be around for the Michigan matchup as well.

He’s left Ontario for Happy Valley many times, so it’s only right if PSU heads over there and gives him a visit. Apparently, they’ve done so on Thursday. Coach Franklin did not confirm, though.

3. Darion Green-Warren, CB

Here’s a prospect that doesn’t seem as high on the Nittany Lions, but he does have an offer on the table for him. Right now, it’s hard for anybody to get a read on the four-star cornerback that hails from California. Initially, it was believed Green-Warren was going to stay on the West Coast, but his official visit planner may say otherwise.

As of right now, Darion Green-Warren has three visits planned. His first will be to Nebraska, which is scheduled for next week. Next, he will take a trip to Penn State in mid-October. Then, the final visit lined up for right now is in November to Michigan. It’s doubtful that Franklin gets out to the West Coast, but it wouldn’t hurt if somebody else on the staff took a trip.

4. Jalen Berger, RB

Penn State is far from being in need of a running back for this class. They already have such a young unit for the 2019 season, and recently they received commitments from Caziah Holmes and Keyvone Lee.

Landing the New Jersey prospect Jalen Berger is still a possibility as he keeps Penn State in the mix. Since he’s just a long car ride away, perhaps the Nittany Lions get somebody out there to check out one of his games. Nothing wrong with continuing to build RBU.

5. D.J. Rogers, TE

Here’s another one that might be tough to check out in such a short time. But if it’s possible, Penn State should do so. As they look to spend a large chunk of time on recruiting Theo Johnson, D.J. Rogers, of Eastside Catholic High School in Sammamish, Washington is still an option.

Right now, Penn State doesn’t have any commitments from tight ends for the 2020 class. It seems realistic that they will land the four-star Canadian, but Rogers is up there in the rankings as well as he’s considered a top-ten prospect at the position in this class.
