Former Penn State football quarterback Trace McSorley made the Baltimore Ravens final roster, despite being a late-round pick.

Everything was terrific for the Penn State football program on Saturday. At 3:30 PM, the Nittany Lions kicked off for the first time in the 2019 NCAA Football season. With well over 100,000 fans in attendance, the home team put on a show as they destroyed the Idaho Vandals.

Some former Nittany Lions were in attendance, as Miles Sanders and Shareef Miller hung out on the sidelines. However, they weren’t the only two Lions-turned-NFL players tuned in. Back in Baltimore, former Penn State quarterback Trace McSorley was watching on TV.

While the former Nittany Lions quarterback joked about Penn State running up the score against Idaho, his alma mater was unaware of whether McSorley ‘made it’ in the NFL or not. As a sixth-round selection, McSorley’s spot on the Ravens’ roster was far from a lock.

Considering they have a young starter in Lamar Jackson, and a reliable backup in Robert Griffin, it was going to be difficult for McSorley to make it considering that most NFL teams do not carry three quarterbacks. But with his versatility, McSorley proves he can do much more than just holding a clipboard and being suited up in case two quarterbacks go down.

McSorley makes the final cuts

After the Baltimore Ravens final preseason game, their head coach John Harbaugh wasn’t hesitant about revealing McSorley’s status within the organization. As he mentioned that it wasn’t about ‘if’ McSorley makes the team, it’s more about ‘what his role will be,’ we pretty much concluded that the Nittany Lions’ All-Time passing leader was in Baltimore to stay for his rookie effort.

On Saturday at the 4 PM deadline, the Ravens made it official. Their team’s Twitter account sent out “QB Trace McSorley in on the 53-man roster.”

While a good handful of fans missed it because the Lions were in play, the ones who caught it were ecstatic for the former Penn State quarterback. It will be interesting to see how the Ravens utilize the multi-talented passer in 2019 as his unique role has been teased a bit throughout the summer.
