As expected, Penn State football safety Johnny Petrishen is going to move on from the Nittany Lions.

Nothing lasts forever in college football. Players come and go on a yearly basis. Whether they are departing for the NFL or simply just wrapping up their final years of college, players will forever be on their way out every year. However, those two circumstances aren’t the only factors that play into players leaving from Penn State football’s program.

Just a day ago, the Nittany Lions officially made a statement regarding defensive tackle, Ellison Jordan. As Jordan has suffered his fair share of setbacks due to a knee injury, he decided it was best to move on from football and focus on life beyond the sport. However, just because he’s leaving football, doesn’t mean he’s leaving Penn State.

Jordan will remain on campus, but football is no longer in his plans. And a little over 24 hours after Jordan’s official status was released, another Penn State player made an announcement of his own regarding his future in Happy Valley. On Tuesday night, Penn State safety Johnny Petrishen took to Twitter to announce that he will not only be absent from the Lions in 2019, but he will actually be on campus somewhere else when the fall rolls around.

Johnny’s announcement

“For the past two weeks, I have been weighing my options,” Petrishen wrote on a screenshotted note for Twitter. “I can’t wait to help a new team this fall whenever I fully recover from my surgery. Thank you Penn State for a once in a lifetime opportunity, I will be forever grateful to be a Penn State football letterman and alumni.”

Two weeks ago, Petrishen informed the Lions’ coaching staff that he intended on leaving Happy Valley after undergoing his third surgery in four years. At this point, the veteran safety felt it was best that he got a fresh start elsewhere after failing to make an impact on the Lions’ defense and struggling to remain healthy.

Right now, his next destination is unclear. While Petrishen knows he won’t continue his career in Happy Valley, it’s been a while since the former three-star recruit has searched for a school to attend. During the time of his recruitment, Petrishen had interest from Pittsburgh, Akron, Albany, and Bowling Green. However, he did not announce any of his further plans quite yet.
