Penn State football: Where does 2020 class rank after Caziah Holmes commitment?
After landing four-star running back Caziah Holmes, where does Penn State football rank now for the 2020 recruiting class?
Penn State football wrapped up their second week of practices with some promising news on the recruiting front. After two months of continuous communication with a four-star, Florida-based running back, the Lions finally received word that they will, in fact, land their first running back for the 2020 recruiting class on Friday.
Down in Cocoa, Florida, the sixth-best All-Purpose back in the country made his commitment decision an entire event. Caziah Holmes had local media in attendance, staring at a long table with seven hats set up. Florida, Kentucky, Florida State, Auburn, Tennessee, Miami, and Penn State each had a hat laid out on the table.
Last month, Holmes made these seven teams aware that they were in the race for his commitment. This month, he planned to eliminate six at once. For the most part, many were aware that Holmes had two schools in front of the rest, and it was pretty clear. One in his state, in Florida State. Then one up in Happy Valley, the Penn State Nittany Lions.
Although his scheduled announcement delayed for about a half an hour, everybody knew exactly where his destination was once Penn State head coach James Franklin tweeted out his obligatory “#WeAre… Better,” announcement indicating that he received word of another commitment. At that point, everybody paying attention knew that Holmes was headed to Happy Valley.
Where are the Nittany Lions ranked for 2020?
With Holmes’ commitment, the Lions land their 22nd prospect for the 2020 recruiting class. While he is the fourth-best prospect to give the Lions his word this offseason, their ranking in the 2020 class didn’t see much of a significant jump. As of right now, they are still ranked 14th in the NCAA, according to 247 Sports. They remain third in the Big Ten behind Michigan, and Ohio State.
On the other hand, Rivals.com likes Penn State’s 2020 recruiting class a lot more than 247 does. According to the current ranks, Rivals had Penn State ranked ninth in the NCAA. Although they still fall behind their Big Ten foes there as well, it’s still promising to see the Lions within the top ten. Soon, they could see more of an increase as a couple more prospects are set to make announcements this month.
