Amani Oruwariye, CB

Amani Oruwariye got his debut as a cornerback with the Detroit Lions on Thursday night. The former Nittany Lions corner was picked to play for another Lions team by way of the fifth round at the draft. As a fifth-round pick, Oruwaryie had room for mistakes. Playing cornerback at any level, especially the NFL, is a difficult task no matter what.

Sure, Oruwariye made his mistakes. Notably, he failed to turn around and play the ball when being targeted and the play resulted in a touchdown by the Patriots. Other than that though, the rookie cornerback did a pretty solid job, and the Lions base seems genuinely excited about him.

Before his low-light play overshadowed his progress, the rookie cornerback was actually leading Detroit’s defense in tackles. With six tackles, he tied with Andrew Adams for the most on the team for the night. Oruwaryie also had two pass deflections, which stood out as well. As a whole, the Detroit Lions played lousily — but personally, Oruwaryie had his shining moments.
