Penn State football 2020 prospect Nick Dawkins has every intention of getting to work early for next season.

It’s never too early to start working on the future. At least that’s how Penn State football prospect Nick Dawkins thinks. Back in April, the Allentown, Pennsylvania offensive lineman gave the Nittany Lions his word, as he committed to the University for the 2020 recruiting class.

Nowadays, you can never be so sure if a High School athlete is one-hundred percent set on their future or not. As we know in Happy Valley, the Nittany Lions have had their fair share of turnarounds. In June alone, they dealt with four losses from de-commitments.

Some players jump the gun and fall in love with the first school they visit, only to eventually grow sick of it. Others might see how everything unfolds and suddenly fall out of favor with their school after seeing how the recruiting class turns out.

The fact of the matter is, these prospects are not always one-hundred percent set on their future this early on — but then on the other side of the spectrum, some players simply cannot wait to get to work. Penn State 2020 prospect Nick Dawkins is the latest example of the latter.

At the end of this month, the six-foot-four-inch, 300-pound Dawkins will play for Parkland High School as a Senior. While his team has his undivided attention, the soon-to-be Lions’ guard simply cannot wait for the wintertime to arrive so he can start focusing on life as a Nittany Lion.

During a roughly 20 minute conversation with the fellas over at Lions247, Dawkins revealed that he had every intention of signing with the Lions early. During the couple day period in mid-December, Dawkins and others become eligible to sign their letter of intent early so they can ensure they will get to work quicker than others.

Although he would end up missing the rest of his senior year in High School by doing so, the future Lions guard is excited to leave the final half of his High School days behind as he knows he will be in Happy Valley just weeks after early enrollment.

"“I’m just ready to go to work, I’m ready right now to win a state championship with my high school. After that I’m ready to go and get to work at Penn State. It’s like it’s real now. I gotta build this legacy of my last name. I gotta do it.”“I grew up in Pennsylvania, I love Pennsylvania sports, and, at Penn State, I don’t care where I have to play on the line or anything like that. As long as I work and get on the field. … It’s all about the work you put in.”"

Dawkins, a three-star prospect who is ranked as the seventh-best prospect in Pennsylvania, has been a frequent visitor to Happy Valley over the last few months. As he mentions he doesn’t live too far from campus in comparison to other prospects, the offensive lineman made it a goal to get to campus for a majority of the offseason recruiting events.

He believes there was no excuse for him to miss out on the opportunity to work and get better. That was his mindset throughout the summer, and now he will keep the same mindset throughout the winter. And once Parkland’s season wraps up, Dawkins will focus on finishing his academics so he can get the head start in Happy Valley, which he clearly cannot wait for.
