The Penn State football program landed its 22nd commitment in four-star running back, Caziah Holmes on Thursday.

Penn State football has been waiting for this day for quite some time now. After months of trying to convince four-star running back Caziah Holmes to come to Happy Valley, the Cocoa, Florida native gave the team his word and plans to join the Lions’ 2020 recruiting class.

The nation’s sixth-ranked All-Purpose back for the 2020 class had quite the lineup of schools working for his services beyond 2019. With 21 offers on the table, Holmes had a lot of thinking and research that he had to get done in order to find out where he wanted to play.

Being a Florida native, it comes as no surprise that Holmes had some substantial interest from teams within his home state. Schools such as Miami, FIU, Florida, and Florida State all made it clear to Holmes that they wanted him to stick around in the Southeast.

However, Holmes’ name would become recognized to other significant schools as well — especially within the Big Ten. Along with Penn State, Holmes garnered interest from Ohio State, Michigan, Maryland, Nebraska, and more. Out of all of those shared conference schools though, the four-star prospect became especially interested in the Nittany Lions.

Coming to Happy Valley

Back in June, Holmes arrived on campus for the first time. That’s when he would take on his official visit to meet with Nittany Lions’ running backs coach, Ja’Juan Seider. Knowing how well Seider has done in the recent past with landing Florida-based prospects, it comes as no surprise that the Nittany Lions coach kept in close touch with the star running back.

Last month, Holmes announced his top seven schools which included Florida State, Florida, Kentucky, Tennessee, Miami, Auburn, and Penn State. Oddly enough, Holmes posted three pictures of his official offers from Tennessee, Florida State, and the Nittany Lions to Twitter last week, revealing what some might’ve believed to be a top-three a week before his announcement.

While many believed the real race for his commitment was between Florida State and Penn State, many insiders and analysts eventually came to the conclusion that the Lions were the obvious choice. On Holmes’ crystal ball picks from 24/7 Sports, he was unanimously linked to Penn State by eleven different insiders.

Rivals.com had him forecasted as an 80-percent lock to head to Happy Valley as well. After his much-anticipated announcement on Friday, it is confirmed. Caziah Holmes will suit up for the Penn State Nittany Lions in 2020. He now joins the recruiting class as the fourth-highest commitment for the 2020 class behind Cole Brevard, Enzo Jennings, and Curtis Jacobs.
