Could Penn State football land two 4-Star 2020 RBs in August?
Penn State football could use some more 4-Star commitments for the 2020 class. Could they land two this month at the same position?
The 2020 recruiting cycle hasn’t been all that eventful as of late for the Penn State football program. Outside of landing a commitment from three-star Canadian wideout, Malick Meiga, the Lions haven’t had too much action on the recruiting front in the month of August so far.
That could change very soon though. As we mentioned last week, there are a few prospects linked to the Lions who have scheduled commitments for August. Unfortunately, the first one, Zuriah Fisher, fell through with his plans and decided to postpone his announcement.
However, there are still two, potentially three, prospects who could give the Nittany Lions their verbal commitment at some point this month. As we’ve pointed out before, offensive tackle Ibrahim Traore is scheduled to make his decision on August 30th — but two running backs who have been recently linked to Penn State will announce their plans earlier.
Cocoa, Florida running back Caziah Holmes has been a frequent topic in Happy Valley for the last month or so. As the four-star running back kept in touch with Lions’ running back’s coach, Ja’Juan Seider, many believe it is inevitable he becomes Penn State’s first running back to commit from the 2020 class — but we will have to wait until Friday to find out.
Speaking of Florida-based running backs, another one has been recently linked to the Lions as well. Clearwater, Florida four-star prospect Keyvone Lee is also expected to make his decision later on in the month, and as of late, he’s been linked to Happy Valley as well. Could there really be two four-star running backs joining the 2020 class in August?
What’re the chances?
As of right now, eleven insiders on 247 Sports have put in a prediction regarding Caziah Holmes’ potential landing spot. One-hundred percent of the projections fell in favor for Penn State. That also included writers who cover some of Holmes’ other interests such as Florida State, Miami, and the Gators. Holmes claims his decision is already made, so it is assumed PSU is where he’s headed.
As for the six-foot, 223-pound running back Keyvone Lee, he isn’t a guarantee to travel up to Pennsylvania for college quite yet. As he still has 18 days before he makes his final decision, Lee has been logged to be 75-percent in favor of landing in Happy Valley based off of four predictions.
Just six months ago, Lee decided to de-commit from the Florida Gators and re-open his recruitment. While Florida still remains in the conversation, Lee also has eyes for Florida State, LSU, and Penn State. Since Holmes’ decision comes first, that could dictate Lee’s direction.
If Holmes decides he wants to join an already crowded backfield in Happy Valley, Lee could take the opportunity to head to one of his in-state interests. However, if Lee has a mindset like Holmes, where he embraces a good backfield competition, Penn State could be an ideal landing spot for him. The duo could end up being a nice one-two punch within the next couple of years.
