Penn State football 4-Star prospect Theo Johnson recently made an impromptu visit to Happy Valley and was feeling ‘happy vibes’ on campus.

The Penn State football program had one final opportunity to host High School prospects this week in order to make a lasting impression. As preparation for the 2019 NCAA football season begins, another recruiting dead period will take place for the entire month of August. Therefore, the Nittany Lions had to make their final recruiting event count this past weekend.

The Lasch Bash barbecue came and went, as many prospects visited Happy Valley to workout, receive offers, and meet the Lions’ staff for the first, second, or tenth time. For Penn State 2020 four-star tight end prospect Theo Johnson, it was his fifth time on campus. The Canadian prospect didn’t have intentions of returning to Happy Valley this early, but some last-minute convincing by Penn State’s Tyler Bowen and Johnson’s high school coach made the visit happen.

Johnson has been on Penn State’s radar since as early as last summer. And the Nittany Lions aren’t the only ones who have their hand in trying to get Johnson’s commitment. Ranked in 247 Sports’ composite as the third-best tight end for the 2020 class, Johnson has nearly 30 offers on the table for his services. While he claims that no school has a clear lead in front of the other, it’s necessary to note that Johnson has spent more time in Happy Valley than anywhere else.

What’s the latest on Johnson’s recruitment?

“I wouldn’t say anyone is in the lead,” Johnson told Lions247’s, Steve Wiltfong. While Johnson had no intentions of coming back to Penn State before his official visit, which is scheduled for October, tight ends coach Tyler Bowen was able to get it done.

That’s great news considering that one of Johnson’s most important qualities that he’s looking for in his next destination is the relationship with his positions coach. By no means will Johnson neglect other schools as the college season approaches, but right now PSU is in a great position.

"“I really just felt the atmosphere was a very happy atmosphere and all the coaches and players and stuff really just seem like they were enjoying their time there and everyone seemed like they were happy with how things are going at Penn State and everyone seems excited for the season and there’s a chip on everyone’s shoulder for the season and they’re coming into the season with a full head of steam. Just very happy vibes from this past weekend.”"

According to Rivals.com, Johnson has expressed high interest in four schools. One of which is Penn State. The other three happen to be Michigan, Georgia, and Iowa. Back in June, Johnson had an official visit to Iowa, and he’s hoping to get back there along with the other schools mentioned this fall as well.

Right now, 247’s crystal ball prediction has two insiders voting for the Nittany Lions to land Johnson. Two others put their guesses in as undecided. On Rivals, Johnson is 100-percent forecasted to land with Penn State by one publisher. It will take some time before Johnson makes his decision, but Penn State should be feeling good where they’re at right now.
