Penn State football recently landed their second commitment from the 2021 recruiting class in Nick Elksnis.

Recruiting news for Penn State football has been quiet over the last few weeks. As the NCAA dead period kicked in, the Nittany Lions coaching staff didn’t have the opportunity to host any recruits for pretty much the entire month of July. However, they could listen to verbal commitments if they came about, but unfortunately, nothing came in after the first week.

That all changed on Wednesday though. Just a few days after wrapping up the final recruitment event for the 2019 NCAA offseason, the Lions received another commitment. This time, it was from the 2021 recruiting class. Jacksonville, Florida native Nick Elksnis will become the second commit for Penn State’s 2021 class.

The six-foot-five-inch, 220-pound tight end was recently in Happy Valley for a visit as the school hosted the Lasch Bash. Although he’s still got two years left in his High School career, Elksnis has visibly seen and heard enough from Penn State and has been convinced that’s where he would like to continue his football career in two years.

The official announcement from Elksnis

“After much thought and prayer, I am humbled to say that I have committed to Penn State University,” Elksnis tweeted on Wednesday morning just moments after Lions’ head coach James Franklin mentioned there would be a new commitment coming soon via Twitter. Elksnis now joins Maryland-based wide receiver Dont’e Thornton, who first committed back in February.

Elksnis is a three-star tight end, according to 247 Sports and Rivals.com. With 20 offers on the table, a few of which coming from Big Ten schools, Elksnis didn’t give too much attention to anybody else. His only reported visit came from this weekend at Penn State, and clearly they only needed one unofficial visit to lock him. Now, PSU can focus solely on other 2021 prospects.
