Penn State football: Micah Parsons calls Pat Freiermuth best Big Ten TE
Is Penn State football’s Pat Freiermuth the best tight end in the Big Ten Conference? Well, he is in the eyes of Micah Parsons.
It’s never too early to start talking about the potential top players in a conference. For Penn State football, they could have a some depending on how the season goes, obviously. But right now, the clear-cut debate about having the best player in the Big Ten for a specific position from Penn State could be the tight end position. Recently, PennLive’s Bob Flounders made it a pressing question.
“Is Penn State’s Pat Freirmuth the best tight end in the Big Ten?” The Sophomore tight end is entering his second season after an impressive Freshman effort where he caught 26 passes for 368 yards and eight touchdowns. Last year, Freiermuth didn’t have a full-time role as he started nine games. This season, he’s expected to be one of the Lions’ top weapons on the offense throughout the duration of the entire season.
Although Freiermuth has a lot left to prove this early on, asking if he’s the best at the position isn’t out of the question. After all, he did lead the NCAA in touchdowns caught by a Freshman tight end. His eight touchdowns ranked second overall in the nation, and first within the Big Ten.
With a potential breakout season brewing, Freiermuth’s teammate Micah Parsons is ready to add some hype into the mix. After stumbling across the article, which raised the question about whether Freiermuth is the top tight end in the conference or not, Parsons put his money on Penn State’s very own via Twitter.

“Well he’s top 2 but ain’t number 2,” Parsons tweeted in response to the question. Clearly, Parsons has seen something in Freiermuth this offseason, which is sure to put the Big Ten on notice. Knowing how dominant Freiermuth was as a Freshman, the expectations are only getting higher for the young star. As he appeared on the Mackey Award watch list already, Freiermuth has a lot of work to do in 2019. But he’s kept busy this offseason working on his weak spots. With camp coming up in the next few days, he will only get better with more reps.
