As Penn State football awaits the decision of a 3-star defensive end, they landed a new commitment in a transferring punter named Taylor Goettie.

Everything has been quiet as of late on the recruiting front for the Penn State football program. However, that might not be the case for long. This past weekend, the NCAA football dead period concluded. And after a month’s worth of waiting with little-to-no action in recruiting, we could see the 2020 class start to shape up even more with commitments over this next week or so.

PSU wrapped up their final recruiting event of the summer this past weekend. With the Lasch Bash in the books, the program will have to wait and see if other players are ready to commit as the team gears up for training camp on August 1st.

There haven’t been any new recruits coming out of High School just yet, but Penn State did land the commitment of a Norfolk State transfer. Taylor Goettie, a two-year punter from Norfolk, has decided to take his talents to the Big Ten. According to Onward State, the specialist will join the team as a walk-on, with an opportunity to earn a scholarship later on down the line.

Seeing as though Blake Gillikin is still in the picture and recognized as one of the best players at the position currently, Goettie won’t come in and contribute as the starting punter right away. However, Gillikin is in his senior season, so he could be headed to the next level after this year. That’s when Goettie will get his opportunity to make a name for himself in Happy Valley.

In other recruiting news, the Nittany Lions could be hearing from a three-star, Pennsylvania-based defensive end soon. Zuriah Fisher is a six-foot-three, 240-pound defensive end out of Aliquippa. He’s currently ranked as the 12th best prospect in the state, according to 247 Sports. As Fisher was just in Happy Valley for the teams’ final recruiting event this past weekend, the prospect eventually revealed when he would make his commitment this year.

Next Monday, on August 5th, will be Fisher’s commitment day. With 23 offers on the table, only a few teams have been linked to Fisher’s potential pick. One happens to be another Big Ten school in Michigan State. The Spartans were the only team to get Fisher on campus for an official visit. While the Lions technically didn’t have Fisher around for an official visit, he has been a frequent visitor since the springtime for the on-campus recruiting events. Soon, his decision will be made.
