4-Star RB Daniyel Ngata eliminates Penn State football from his top choices
Last month, Penn State football landed as a top seven choice for Daniyel Ngata. This month, he trimmed down his selections to a top five.
The Penn State football program has had its fair share of solid running backs in the past. For starters, they wrapped up a three-year stint with Saquon Barkley last year as he became the second-overall pick in the 2018 NFL Draft. Then, Barkley’s successor Miles Sanders began his third season in the NCAA as a first-time starter.
As expected, Sanders wrapped up the first year as a feature back with some solid numbers. Although he probably would’ve benefitted from returning to Penn State for another year, the young back didn’t want to risk it. Therefore, Sanders entered the 2019 NFL Draft and became a second-round pick. Now, PSU will roll with Ricky Slade, Journey Brown, and more.
While a couple of those guys have bright futures ahead of them at Happy Valley, the Nittany Lions are still looking to lock in a running back for their 2020 class. Lately, some prospects have had Penn State on their radar, but so far there hasn’t been any luck in gaining verbal commitments from the players they have made offers to already.
Last month, Penn State was getting warm with potentially landing a highly-touted prospect. Folsom, California running back Daniyel Ngata became intrigued with the idea of joining the Nittany Lions. Ngata is a Top-50 ranked prospect nationally, and the second-best All-Purpose Running Back, according to 247 Sports.

When he announced his top seven schools back in June, Happy Valley was excited to hear that Ngata kept the Lions on his radar. They ended up making the cut out of 23 other schools who offered. Unfortunately, Ngata decided to have another cut-down day in July, which didn’t have positive results for the Penn State football program.
As Ngata announced his top five schools this past weekend, the two teams who were left out happened to be the Oregon Ducks and the Penn State Nittany Lions. Now, the Lions search for a 2020 running back continues this month as they have yet to figure out the future of their backfield. Fortunately there is still plenty of time left in the recruiting cycle.
