Penn State football wide receiver KJ Hamler celebrated his birthday on Monday, but the celebration wouldn’t be complete without a song from his parents.

Birthdays are typically special for everybody. For obvious reasons, of course. Sometimes, the excitement for your birthday can fade away. Other times, you treat it like a holiday. A birthday is not something that should be celebrated alone, though.

Friends and family are typically always in the mix when it comes to your birthday. And if you’re Penn State football wide receiver, KJ Hamler, your birthday is more than a celebration every single year. Not only for Hamler but for Penn State football fans on Twitter as well.

Two years ago, Hamler was celebrating his 18th birthday. For parents, 18 is a special age for their kids because that’s the year they technically become adults. So for that year, Hamler’s parents, Latonya Gooding and Thomas Hamler made the occasion extra special.

They put together a video of them rapping and singing a song. And not just some generic happy birthday song, but a custom track that they worked on together tailored just for their son. Hamler couldn’t hold back the excitement at the time. He decided to save the video and post it to Twitter for everybody to see. The video ended up collecting over 211,000 views.

From that moment, Penn State fans went crazy for the duo of Gooding and Hamler. The following year, Hamler’s parents decided to come back with an encore. For his 19th birthday, his parents once again sent him another video, which didn’t do as well views-wise, but still had Penn State fans flocking to Hamler’s Twitter account to see how they did.

This year, the tradition kept keeping on. On Monday, Hamler once again received a video from his parents celebrating his 20th birthday with yet, another song. As expected, Penn State’s fan base went crazy. At this point, they aren’t the only ones excited for the birthday rap. Penn State’s football program itself retweeted the video along with the head coach, James Franklin who most definitely approves of the song.

Unfortunately, Penn State fans will be disappointed to find out that Hamler’s parents won’t make this a long-lasting tradition. At the end of the video, Gooding reveals that this will be the last video that Hamler will receive for his birthday.

It seems that after three years, the duo is ready for retirement from music. Being that Hamler turns 21 next year though (another big age) perhaps, his parents have another trick up their sleeve. Maybe, instead of a rap, they come with something even bigger.

We’re just speculating right now, but we’re not sure what to expect. Hopefully, this is not the end of the Gooding-Hamler duo. Maybe, it’s just the beginning of what’s next to come.
